Word Art for the Single Girl (or Guy) / Unbrave Girl

Since moving into my new, bigger apartment in December, I’ve been spending a lot more time (and money) in home and decorating stores. Because MUST FILL ALL THE SPACE.

From my recent forays into the Home Goods and Pier Ones and World Markets in my area, I’ve noticed two things:

1. I don’t own nearly enough seasonally themed kitchen goods. So far the only thing I have fitting this bill is a dish towel that says “Meowy Christmas” and has a cat in a Santa Claus hat on it.

2. It’s all about the word art.

In case, you haven’t spent nearly as much time perusing home stores, word art is basically that: art made out of words. It’s usually a kitschy phrase printed over a cute graphic or painted on a piece of splintery old wood that appears to have been taken off the side of a mid-Century barn. Because, sure, you might get tetanus, but, whatever, you’ll at least have a kitschy phrase to cheer you up!

And, overwhelmingly these kitschy phrases are about being in a couple and/or having children. You know, things like, “Every love story is special, but ours is my favorite.” Or “Please excuse the mess, my children are making memories.”

Now I like my kitschy phrases as much as the next girl, but  as a single lady without kids I can’t help feeling a bit left out.

So I decided to remedy that situation by creating my own wall art for the single and childless. Feel free to print these out, frame them and put them up on your wall. Because, hey, our wombs might be barren, but our walls don’t have to be!

I expect Target will  be calling me any minute to offer me my own line of home decor, don’t you?

Have a phrase for the single/childless among us that you’d like to see on some wall art? Share below! Maybe I’ll have to include it in the next collection I do.

I’d totally hang the “Home is where the pants are not” on my wall! Or even on my front door…just as fair warning to unexpected visitors.

Oh for one that describes the pure bliss of the bra removed!

Haha! I was trying to keep them “gender-neutral” so the guys could related… I feel the no pants one is pretty much the gender-neutral equivalent of taking off the bra. 🙂

I have those pajama pants. And the matching top.

How about: Ice cream. It’s what’s for dinner.

Wait. There’s a matching top? I’m obviously not that coordinated when I sleep.
And love the ice cream suggestion. That’s definitely appropriate in my house… especially come summer-time.

These are truly great. Also, the seasonally-themed kitchen and home decor items are a scourge on humanity. Someone in my family (related by marriage, not by blood I will point out!) owns WAY too much of this stuff — has literally spent thousands on it in the past 30 years. And then she has the nerve to post a “Collect moments, not things” meme on Facebook.

    • On May 7, 2016 at 12:49 pm Sally said:

This comment made me LOL. Maybe by collecting seasonally-themed items, this someone figures it’s kind of like collecting moments… because seasons are moments, right? Except I’m not so sure Halloween-themed dish towels can be considered a moment…

These are great Sally. Seriously! Why not cash in on the kitsch movement by creating and marketing pieces that appeal to the many single women out here.
