Random Stuff List

November 2, 2014

Hey, you guys, it’s another Random Stuff List!

You know, one of those posts where I just write a list of things I’ve done this week along with a healthy dose of kitten video links and call it a blog post.

Fun, right?

So, let’s get started, shall we?

1. Happy (belated) Halloween, everyone!

Halloween is definitely my favoritest of all holidays. I mean, what’s not to love about a holiday where it’s perfectly acceptable to walk around, demanding candy from strangers?

Also, I am such a costume person. I don’t even understand people who show up to Halloween parties not wearing a costume. It actually makes me kind of angry. I mean, what is that even about? Why wouldn’t you want to show up at a party in a feather boa and fake arm tattoos? I mean, come on! If feather boas and fake arm tattoos were considered business casual, I would totally rock them to work EVERY SINGLE DAY.

That being said, I kind of sucked on the costume front this year. I ended up looking for a costume at Walmart the day before Halloween, which meant my options were limited to a witch hat or a sexy clown. I went with the witch hat because I figured it would be easy to come up with the rest of the witch outfit given the fact that I own every single piece of black clothing ever invented.

At least the hat had FEATHERS and some kind of glittery tinsel stuff. It was like a feather boa — but in witch hat form.

Also, clowns should never, ever, ever be sexy.  Or even exist.

2. And then I went to a Halloween party and yelled at everyone who didn’t wear a costume.

Because I hear that’s a good way to make friends.

3. Another reason I love Halloween?

Having a legit excuse to have monsters painted on your nails.

Not that you should need a legit excuse for monster nails.

4. Of course, I couldn’t leave George out of the Halloween fun, so I got her a costume, too.

Let’s just say she wasn’t a fan.

This look says: "I know where you sleep." And: "You are dead to me. DEAAAD TO MEEEE!"

This look says: “You are dead to me. DEAAAD TO MEEEE!”

And, yes, her costume just happened to match my costume. WHAT? That’s normal, right? People dressing up like their pets for Halloween?

Wait. Don’t answer that.

5. Speaking of my cat and holidays, it was also National Cat Day this week.

I had no idea National Cat Day even existed until people started posting about it on my Facebook wall. I guess that’s what happens when you become everybody’s favorite crazy cat lady.

So, in honor of National Cat Day, I give you my favorite cat links for the week:

Remember the cat in the shark costume on a Roomba chasing a duck? Of course, you do! Well, now that cat is back and she’s on on a Roomba wearing a Princess Jasmine costume. (I love the fact that she’s got the pointy shoes and everything. My cat tried to eat my hands off when I put a hat on her. I can’t even imagine what she’d do if I attempted to put shoes on her. Actually I can imagine it. And it’s not pretty.)

For National Cat Day, Uber was offering a kitten delivery service in seven cities. And, now I need to move to one of those cities before the next National Cat Day because KITTEN DELIVERY YOU GUYS. IT’S LIKE PIZZA DELIVERY BUT WITH CATS!

Gone Girl reenacted by kittens? YES and PLEASE and THANK YOU.

6. Is anyone else freaking out that fall is moving wayyyyyy too fast?

I just want to glue all the leaves back up on the trees and make them stay there forever.

Is that possible?

Get back up on the trees, you leaves!

Get back up on the trees, you leaves!

It even snowed on Friday. SNOWED! IN OCTOBER! What kind of crazy-pants is that about?

Although I did get to watch it with my cat. So that was pretty special.

Kitten's first snowfall.

Kitten’s first snowfall.

Stop looking at me like that. It was special.

7. As I mentioned in my last Random Stuff List, I’ve become totally obsessed with making ALL THE PUMPKIN THINGS.

I made these pumpkin pie bars for a dinner party the other week and everyone thought I was a baking genius.

And then I made these pumpkin cookies and gave them out at my office on Halloween because everyone loves the girl who brings cookies to the office, right? Even if she’s kind of a grumpy-pants most every morning and has a tendency to hog the copier.

Next up? I totally want to make these pumpkin cinnamon rolls. But I feel like I’d need to invite people over for brunch to have an excuse to make them. I can’t just make an entire pan of pumpkin cinnamon rolls and eat them all by myself.  OR CAN I?

8. I mentioned before that I’m taking a storytelling class at the university where I work.

Well, this week my homework was to watch storytelling performances on Youtube. I know, right? Why didn’t we get to watch Youtube for homework back when I was in college? Oh yeah, probably because Youtube didn’t exist back when I was in college.

Anyway, I loved these two performances from Speakeasy DC. So funny!

9. I’ve been getting lots of emails from people lately asking for blogging advice because, apparently, people have not yet learned that it’s a really bad idea to ask me for advice.

My first bit of advice: Write the kind of stuff you like to read. Me? I like oversharey-type personal narratives and random lists full of pumpkin recipes and kitten links. (See what I did right there?)

My second bit of advice: Read this post by The Everywhereist. And all the posts by The Everywhereist.

10. Speaking of writing, it’s Nanowrimo month, where you sign up to write a novel in a month.

Is anyone doing it? I tried it once and lasted, errm, five days. Which is about five days longer than I thought I’d last.

I was briefly thinking about signing up for NaBloPoMo, which is where you write a blog post everyday for the month of November. But, seeing as it’s tough enough for me to find time to write one post a week, that would probably kill me.

Plus, at some point, I would probably run out of pumpkin recipes and kitten links to talk about. And I’m not about that life.

How was your week, friends? Did you dress up for Halloween. Or do I have to yell at you for being a total party pooper???

I've blathered on long enough! Now it's your turn!

I love these posts – they’re like ten blog posts in one. Also, anything involving cat photos get my vote. 🙂

I probably shouldn’t admit this here, but I didn’t dress up for Halloween because I so DO NOT do dressing up, even though my school gives out restaurant vouchers as a reward. Since they also upload photographic evidence to Facebook, I decided privacy was worth more than free food. Until I got paid, that is, and realised that by the end of the month, I’ll be needing that free food…

WAITJUSTASECOND. You passed up both a chance to dress up in a costume and a chance for free food????
I don’t think I can talk to you anymore. Sorry.

Love your random list. Always entertaining. I get really angry when people don’t dress up too! I coordinate our whole family. I got to take advantage while I have the power, right? Happy Fall!

Omigod. That’s awesome! I think I would want kids solely so I could force them to wear coordinated costumes with me. (Just my luck, though, I’d probably end up with some kid who hates costumes.)

This is my first try at commenting on a non-travel blog subject, or is it called a blobject? (I am new to this, OK?)

Why do you people have to dress your pets in human clothes? And, of all the animals, a cat??? A cat is the most wonderfully independent, free spirited animal there is. (A cat should have been our National Emblem, instead of the eagle.) Has anyone ever see a photograph of an animal, any animal, that looked happy, dressed up in people clothes? No, I think not. I believe that we humans are so frustrated with a cat’s independence, we are attempting to show them, WE ARE IN CONTROL! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

OR, could it be we are just jealous that we can’t run around without any clothes on? Talk about scary costumes for Halloween! And we wouldn’t even have to go to Wal-Mart to get them. – Free food for thought

BTW, Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls sound great. Could you add some pecans? Please?

I like this randomly list stuff blog thing. It helps me catch up with what I’ve missed for, like, months over here.

Alas though – I did nothing for Halloween. I dressed up as a lazy teacher lying on her couch in her PJs. That counts, right?

Oh. My. God. I just found this. Still swooning from the compliment. Honestly. This is a lovely counterpoint to the spate of nasty comments I got on a three-year-old blog post. 🙂
